Hot (Warm) Weather Beauty Must-Haves
It might not have been much of a summer so far here in Edinburgh, but as far as I can see, many of you across the UK have managed to absorb some sunshine in the past few weeks (not jealous at all...). But on the days where it has been hot, I've been reaching for a few essentials in my beauty arsenal, to ensure that my skin stays clear, hydrated and basically presentable.
Skincare in summer is so different to winter skincare for me; in the colder months, I love layering on heavy serums and super-nourishing creams, but in the summer, it's all about lightweight layering and maximising hydration, without blocking the skin.
A recent addition to my skincare collection is The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid, and I've been reaching for this on a daily basis to instantly quench thirsty skin and ensure that my complexion looks hydrated and glowing. After that's sunk in, I like to apply a light layer of my number-one must-have, La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo +. For summer, La Roche-Posay have added SPF 30 to the formula, making it even more of a wonder product than before, and now I don't have to apply a separate SPF. Totally dreamy, keeps my skin looking clear and fresh and it doesn't break the bank either.
Makeup's staying power is severely tested when the weather gets warmer, but a solid-gold essential for me is L'Oreal's Infallible Mattifying Base primer. This clear, smooth gel-primer creates a flawless canvas for makeup, and really makes it stick to the skin. Even when you feel like your face is dripping with sweat, it literally never shows through and makeup stays perfectly in place. I like to up this primer's staying power with its sister product, the Infallible Makeup Fixing Mist, which settles everything down and locks it into place. This is a dream duo for me!
And finally, a little handbag weapon for when it all gets too much... Avene's Eau Thermale Spring Water Spray is a hero product for when you're overheated and just getting a little too hot and bothered. I have the mini size, which only costs around £3 and is easy to pick up in Boots, and I always ensure it's in my bag on days when I know things are going to get muggy (Love Island klaxon, stand down). It's an ultra-fine mist to be sprayed over the face and body, instantly cooling you down and refreshing hot, tired skin. It's also great for refreshing makeup and making sure everything looks glowy and gorgeous, and what could feel more chic than whipping some French thermal water out of your bag and giving yourself a little mist?!
