My Current Skincare Routine

My skin is incredibly fussy about what it does and doesn't like. The merest whiff of a too-strong synthetic fragrance, or a dab of an ingredient it doesn't like, and boom - breakout city.

Over the last few months I think I've managed to finally create a routine that works, to give me soft, hydrated skin that's clear most of the time. There's always going to be the odd hormonal blemish here and there, but on the whole, things are looking good.

Allow me to talk you through my current routine...

My day starts with a quick cleanse using the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, swept over the skin with a cotton pad to remove any leftover night product and freshen everything up again. Then I splash a few drops of the B. Essence Lotion in my hands and pat it all over my face and neck, to rehydrate and smooth the skin ahead of makeup application. A word to the wise - this is an unbelievably good product for the price and I hold it responsible for making my skin much softer, brighter and happier since I started using it in April.

Then we're on to the good stuff. I'm still currently deliberating whether a pricey eye cream is worth the cash, so at the moment I just keep it simple with the Superdrug Vitamin E Eye Cream, dotted under the eyes and patted it all around the general area. Then I complete my morning skincare regime with my ride-or-die, La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo+, to keep my skin clear, balanced and generally pretty happy.

I try to keep things simple in the evening too - I find that overwhelming my skin with too many products really freaks it out, so I prefer using stripped-back products that just do a great job. Firstly, I remove my makeup with Aster & Bay's Cleansing Oil, an all-natural cleansing oil that melts away every last scrap of makeup, with a lovely hot flannel. I cleanse twice with the oil to make sure all the makeup is gone, and then follow up with another dose of the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water to get rid of any remaining residue, and go back in with the B. Essence Lotion to rehydrate and freshen. Once I'm in bed, I use the Bioderma Hydrabio Rich Moisturising Care Creme, which my skin just seems to love - it drinks it up! I ran out of this recently and started using a night oil, and instantly my skin broke out, so back to the Bioderma it was. 

A couple of times a week, I add in other elements to make sure my skin gets everything it needs - from extra hydration to a top-up of blemish-busters. Three nights a week, I use the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads Extreme, to chemically exfoliate whilst rebalancing and toning down any blossoming blemishes. If my skin is being particularly pesky, I dose up with a thick layer of L'Oreal's Pure Clay Detox Mask - but only when I don't have any special events or photo opportunities coming up, as this stuff really brings any dirt or debris to the fore. On extra-warm days, or before I take an evening shower, I also like to switch the cleansing oil out of my routine for something extra-nourishing, like the Burt's Bees Sensitive Facial Cleanser, a soap-free cleansing cream that gently lifts makeup and grime away while moisturising at the same time. 

Combined, all of these products seems to work together nicely to bring me soft and clear skin - long may that continue! What's your failsafe skincare routine?
