Celebrating 5 Years of the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian, Edinburgh

the style stories the waldorf astoria caledonian party

There's nothing quite like a black-tie ball to start your weekend with a sparkle, and that was certainly the case a few Fridays ago, back at the end of September; Lewis and I were very kindly invited along to the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian's fifth anniversary celebrations, and what a Friday night it turned out to be!

After finishing up work for the weekend, we spent a little time getting all dressed up: him, a black and blue mix that was devastatingly handsome; me, a years-old red ASOS maxi that never feels out of place when the dress code is ramped up to the nines.

We headed along to the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian unsure of what to expect. We knew the party was to celebrate the fifth birthday of this iconic building shedding its former identity and becoming part of the Waldorf Astoria family (many people in Edinburgh still affectionately call it The Caley), but beyond that, it was shrouded in mystery. We were led along to Peacock Alley, which usually houses the hotel's afternoon teas, and were bowled over by how beautiful it looked.

I don't think we've ever been to a party with such a fabulous selection of things to eat, drink and do before. We were greeted with champagne, before all of the options were presented to us: Edinburgh Gin cocktails, a selection of beers from a local Scottish brewery, Glengoyne whisky and wine too. And that was before we got started on the food: a cheese bar, with more kinds of cheese and accoutrements than I care to remember (I am not a cheese fan, so Lewis ate enough for the two of us!), a salmon bar and a whole roast leg of beef served with brioche - which, by the way, was probably the best roast beef I have ever, ever had the pleasure of eating.

The evening was soundtracked by a fabulous jazz band, but there was plenty else to do too, with a photobooth (which we made full use of), and an incredible magician/illusionist who had everybody's jaws dropping as he performed his tricks for the tables.

We stayed for hours and had a fantastic time; it was a brilliant party and a perfect showcase of the glamour and luxury the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian has to offer. Having never had the opportunity to visit the hotel before, it was an incredible introduction to the building and the services they offer - we will certainly be back for dinner and drinks in the very near future!

Huge thanks again to the team at the Waldorf Astoria Caledonian for inviting us along.
