July Highlights

July has probably been my most relaxed month this year so far, despite still being incredibly busy. It's been a quiet month in terms of wedding plans, as everything's kind of on the backburner now until we go back to our venue in September, so we haven't really had anyone to meet or much to do wedding-wise - leaving plenty of time for everything else!

Work's been busy this month but most of our weekends have been surprisingly low-key and just lovely, so without rabbiting on for too much longer, here's what's been my best bits from July...

Seeing Two of My Favourite Bands. This month got off to a great start, as we headed off to TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow for the day, as an early birthday treat. I have wanted to see Arctic Monkeys for years and had never had the opportunity, so Lewis got me tickets for their headline slot (which was technically on 30 June but missed the June Highlights post, so it's taking top spot here instead!). It was so much fun - Glasgow was unbelievably hot and sunny and we spent the day in the sunshine, before seeing them later in the evening. It was amazing!! There's nothing quite like when one of your favourite bands plays one of your favourite songs... Speaking of which, three days later we headed back to Glasgow to see another of our faves, Eels. This is a band that we actually bonded over on our first date, so they're always quite a sentimental gig for me. They played so many of our favourite songs, including a few unexpected Prince covers which were just incredible. We went with some family and friends and just had the most fun - well worth the late night and the last train home!

Days Off With Friends. The actual first day of July was one of my favourite days of the month - we stayed with friends after TRNSMT as it was too late to get home, and as they're both teachers, they were on summer holidays so we could spend the Monday together. Another of our closest friends is there too at the moment, so we spent the whole day together, with so much good food, the World Cup for the lads and wedding chat for Joanne and I, hours sunbathing in their garden with bottles of prosecco - why can't every Monday be like that?

My Birthday. I turned 27 this month! I always love to make a big thing out of birthdays and celebrations (life's too short to ignore the opportunity to make a fuss!) but this year, I had the perfect balance between making a fuss and having a lovely relaxed day. Lewis made it so lovely - from balloons covering the living room to baking quite possibly the best cake I have ever tasted. We had birthday cake and tea, and then I was surprised by my best friend/bridesmaid turning up at the door with a beautiful bouquet and my favourite macarons too. We went for Sunday lunch and then came home for cocktails, champagne and a Harry Potter marathon (complete with a cat nap, of course). A dreamy birthday - thank you everyone who sent lovely messages too.

Career Updates. There's not too much I can say here at the moment, but things took a different path than I expected this month career-wise, and it means that things are heading in the direction I always hoped that they would. I am so excited for the next six months and what they'll bring - when I can say more, you'll be the first to know!
