May was a super fun month! Two bank holidays (which you can never underestimate when all of your holiday allowance is being held back until September) meant a bit more leisure time than usual, and with so many weekends in May too, we had lots of fun plans to fit in.
I’m a bit late in uploading this highlights reel, so let’s speed on, shall we?
My Makeup Trial. I had my first makeup trial with my wedding hair and makeup artist, Gosia, in mid-May, which was really exciting. I’m a bit of a control freak with how I like my hair and makeup to look, and after a few poor experiences with makeup artists in the past, I was understandably a bit nervous about handing over the reins to someone else for my actual wedding day. However, Gosia is a pro and put me at ease almost immediately. Her style is very ‘me’, so it was always going to be a great synergy, and I really loved the opportunity to experiment with a few looks. I have a much clearer idea of what I want for my wedding day now, and with another trial pencilled in for August to time-trial the full look, I think we’re well on track.
Asking Another Bridesmaid. One of my highlights of the year so far was going to tea with one of my oldest friends, to ask her to join my team of bridesmaids. It was emotional, so much fun and a moment that I think will be a milestone in our friendship. I never felt right about not having in the team and I am so happy that she’ll be beside us both on our wedding day.
A Day at The Pitt. We haven’t been going out as much as we used to, whilst all of our disposable income is being funnelled into the wedding and honeymoon pot, but we did make an exception a few weekends back to head along to The Pitt. We used to like street food markets in London and when we moved back to Edinburgh, they weren’t really happening here yet, so The Pitt is a very welcome addition to our locale! We headed along one bank holiday Sunday for cocktails and burgers, live music and just a chilled afternoon. We’re heading back next weekend which I’m really looking forward to - the only tricky part is deciding what to eat!
A Night Out in Glasgow. On the same day as my makeup trial, we went out for dinner and drinks for our friend’s 30th birthday. We all gathered together, all of our closest friends (bar a few who couldn’t make it) and went to Baffo in Kelvingrove, which is one of my favourite places for pizza. It was such a fun, chilled night catching up with all of our friends, it might well be the last time that we’re all together before our wedding so we made the most of it, it was so, so much fun! I wish we all lived closer together so that we could do these things more frequently, but the scarcity makes them extra-special.
A Workshop at Narcissus Flower School. I’m determined to be good at floristry, even on an amateur level, so floristry workshops are one of my favourite activities. I’ve been to bouquet classes, buttonhole classes and flower crown classes previously, but when the invitation came through to attend Narcissus’ peony workshop, I knew this would be something special. I took my bestie Aby with me, we both love Narcissus as we both live so near to their shop in Edinburgh. We had a great time learning how to make an asymmetric floral display using peonies and other spring flowers - I was actually really impressed with my own results! Feeling a bit more confident about doing some supplementary floristry for the wedding now…
A Day with my Bridesmaids. Easily the best day of the whole month! It had been planned in for weeks, I invited all of my bridesmaids over to the flat for the afternoon, to catch up, chill out together and for them to try on their dresses. It was so, so much fun! The girls met up beforehand for some sneaky pre-planning and then came over, armed with flowers and champagne. We had so much fun together, chatting about plans for the wedding, the hen (only seven weeks to go now!) and of course, getting them to try on their dresses, which everybody is super happy with. It’s the last time we’ll all be a group together before the hen so it was very special. I am so lucky to have four amazing, beautiful, caring girls helping me!
