The Style Stories: Paring Down Pink

(Leather jacket: French Connection (old, but similar here). Tee: La Redoute. Skirt: River Island. Bag: Accessorize. Trainers: Adidas Stan Smiths.)

After sharing with you my pick of the summer sales last week, it's only right to let you have a little look at which pieces I actually purchased and how I'm wearing them! In the end, I just couldn't resist that tiered pink midi, so into my online basket it went...

In my head I pictured the skirt with a white tee and trainers; something laidback to balance out the overt femininity of the pleats, the ruffles, and the shade of pastel pink. And in reality, it looks exactly as I'd hoped! I paired the skirt with my trusty Stan Smiths (I really need to get another pair of trainers...) and a classic white tee, complete with a cutesy French slogan, with a leather jacket slung over the top.

Unluckily for me, I decided to wear this ensemble on possibly the windiest day I have ever experienced - hence the wild hair in the photo! But the skirt held up well and didn't cause me any embarrassment; no repeats of that time in Paris when I blithely walked over a grate and showed half the sixth arrondissement my knickers...

For me, the dressiness of this skirt definitely limits it to daywear only. I feel like it I wore it with a glamorous top and heels, I'd feel a little too much like Ladies' Day at Ascot - never my aesthetic. I really like the longer midi length (no need to tan, natch). I also love the contrast of the frills and fanciness against much plainer, more casual items, so I think this skirt will be a welcome addition to my summer wardrobe.

How would you wear this skirt?
