The Style Stories: The Pink Sequin Skirt
Pink sequins. Not the most versatile, or indeed the most subtle, combination out there.
It is, however, quite definitely the most fabulous.
You might recognise this skirt from AW 2016, when H&M released it and the more flamboyantly-dressed of our friendship groups snapped it up for the Christmas party season. At the time, I was in the midst of a jeans-and-jumpers phase, and couldn't possibly see myself wearing such a dazzling little number, however much I liked it, and so I left it on the rails sadly and watched many other people dance around in it on Instagram.
And then in early September, it popped back in to my head and I decided I had to have it. It was fate - one search on Depop and the self-same, brand-new, unworn sequin skirt in just my size was winging its way to me. And I was incredibly excited to wear it - you can see why, it's just glorious.
If you've read my recent post on adding a bit of oomph to your daily style, you'll know why I decided to wear this exact outfit. I just really like the idea of dressing down really glitzy pieces, to make a more interesting daytime outfit, and so for my shiny new skirt's debut outing, I decided to pair it with a simple white tee and my trusty (ubiquitous) Stan Smiths. Seriously, someone get me a new pair of trainers.
Having such an unusual item really took this outfit to the next step for me, and wearing something so unashamedly pretty certainly gives you a spring in your step! I was dancing around Stockbridge like nobody was watching - that, dear readers, is the sheer joy that a pink sequin skirt will give you.
But to go back to the opening sentence of this post: at first glance, you might not think that pink sequins are versatile, slightly or even at all. But you would be wrong. I don't have the most expansive wardrobe, by fashion blogger standards, but there is a multitude of options even within my own closet. Think this skirt, paired with an oversized grey jumper, or with a jumper in a clashing shade of pink, with a sleek black top, a crisp white shirt - and don't even get me started on partywear options.
My advice - get yourself some pink sequins into your closet, and into your life. Everyone deserves to pull something out of the wardrobe that brings you total and complete joy, and this is definitely one of those pieces.
